1990 Bottle of Courvoisier VS

This is a good cognac. A bit sharp, but also very soft. Sounds cryptic, but you will agree when you taste it. A lot of value for this price. Probably the best VS of its kind. After maturation this cognac will be kept at 70% and then slowly reduced to 60%. After a year it will be diluted to 55%. And when bottled it is diluted to 40%

Courvoisier Luxe *** cognac 1980

Blend of Fins Bois and Petite Champagne. Courvoisier was the cognac of Napoleon Bonaparte. He gave this cognac (diluted) to his artillery soldiers to keep their morals when marching (wine in the evening and cognac in the morning). Since then Courvoisier makes reliable cognac. This one also. Clear fruit and caramel. Lovers should have tasted this one.

Comte de la Fayette Cognac 1970

Comte de la Fayette is a brand the current owner (Unicoop = Union Coopérative de Viticulteurs Charentais) does not use anymore. This cooperation represents (besides sunflower producers and livestock farmers) more than 1.000 wine growers. Their main brands are Henri Mounier (who was known for his strict quality requirements; also for La Fayette) and Prince Hubert de Polignac.

Hennessy VS Cognac from the 80's

An early 1980s bottling of Hennessy VS Cognac. Around 40 eaux-de-vie make this spectacular brandy, so we would agree that it really is very special. The grading system of Cognac was actually created by Maurice Hennessy (in 1865). This VS is the quintessential cognac. The powerful bouquet is dominated by overtones of oak, giving way to reveal a delicate scent of hazelnuts. Smooth and floral, VS combines the sweetness of red fruits with a hint of vanilla that lingers on the palate.

Martell 3 Star cognac 1970-1980

Great that you can still find these bottles, because the oldest cognac house (1715) makes great cognacs and is beloved in a very special and peculiar way. Martell uses a ot of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies, so the nose and palate is more nutty than the cognacs from the champagne regions. The youngest cognac from this blend has matured at least 5 to 7 years, before bottling. The nice mouth feel and the fact that the finish is long and nice, is striking. Just because they are still easily found (crazy enough between € 50 en 200).

Martell VS Fine Cognac 1990

In 1990 Martell changes his design of the label. Fresher, younger but with the old feeling intact. The biggest change is the Coat of Arms. A flying bird instead of a sitting one is the biggest change. The taste is still great. Do not be fooled by the text Fine Cognac, because it is not a fine champagne cognac. It is a blend (a good one) of four regions: Grande and Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fine Bois. Seen the price of this one, do try.

Bottle of Martell VS 1970

It is getting more and more difficult to find these bottles. It is a great cognac. Matured at ease in oak barrels. And then blended from eaux-de-vie from 4 regions. The youngest blend has aged for approx. 8 years.

Prince Hubert de Polignac 3 star 1985

This is an old bottle of Prince Hubert de Poligna VS from Italy. It is from the house Mounier and distiller Unicoop. Slightly spicy, caramel tinged nose. Bright and dry. Fairly smooth, caramel tinged flavours with a warm, lingering finish. It seems to get better as it sits. Easy to enjoy. A bargain.

Remy Martin v.s.o.p. 1980

This fine champagne has a maturation of at least 8 years. Actually, this is still a very good quality brand. The differences with now are not that big, only the old blend is just a bit more characteristic. It has a nice light orange golden glow. Remarkably soft and spicy with hints of vanilla and floral tones. The palate is even more vanilla with wood, although all super soft. The finish is long, but a little complex.
